  BIOGRAPHY  

 

 Recently, Florian Stern had a guest performances as LEUTNANT and as STUDENT (Wittenberg) in Busoni’s “Doctor Faust” at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, as WALTER in Weinberger’s “Die Passagierin” at the Mainz State Theatre and as HERODES in “Salome” at the Flemish Opera House Antwerp.

As a member of the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck he has elaborated a vast repertoire in the last few years including such roles as HERODES in Strauss‘ “Salome “, GOLO in Schumann’s “Genoveva”, WALTER in Weinberger’s “Die Passagierin”, the TSAREVITSCH in Lehár’s operetta, DIMITRI in “Boris Godunow” or AEGISTH in Strauss‘ “Elektra. For his interpretation of the role of SANDY in Peter Maxwell Davies‘ “The Lighthouse“ he was nominated for the Austrian Music Award as the best leading role interpreter 2022.
In the season 2025/26 he can be seen here BACCHUS in “Ariadne auf Naxos”, BROUCEK in Janacek’s "The Journeys of Mr. Broucek” and as EISENSTEIN in “Die Fledermaus”.

Born in Berlin, Florian Stern studied singing with Scot Weir and Werner Güra At the moment he is coached by Linda Watson and others.

Apart from Innsbruck, he had guest performances in such parst as LYSANDER in Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, as SAM Carlisle Floyd’s “Susannah” and as MOZART in Rymsky-Korsakov’s “Mozart und Salieri”. In Operettas he sings JAN JANICKI in Millöcker’s “Der Bettelstudent” and SANDOR BORIS in Kálmán’s “Die Herzogin von Chicago”.

In concerts he performed Haendel’s “Messiah”, Haydn’s “Die Schöpfung”, Mozart’s “Requiem”, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and his 9th Symphony, as well as Mendelssohn’s “Elias und Paulus”.

In Broucek Florian Stern, a long-standing member of the house, seems to have found his parade role. He sovereignly mastered the vocally demanding part and perfectly portrayed the dotty character, who has also his good side.

Although announced as being indisposed, Florian Stern as the divine boy, accomplished an exceptional performance. Effortlessly, he succeeded in presenting the tenoral upswings in the final duet with Ariadne.

Florian Stern jumped in on short notice to sing the part of Walter. He seamlessly integrated in the ensemble. An achiever. In line with this was his brilliant tenor voice.

Just as convincing as Wagner was Florian Stern as Herodes, who, in moments of his superior feeling of power, with triumphing glaze developed his warm, outstandingly balanced tenor voice. He perfectly succeeds in keeping the balance between fear (of Jochanaan), guilt feelings and being driven on the one hand and irritability and violence on the other.
