In 2026 the young tenor Valery Makarov, who is particularly famous for his Rossini and Belcanto interpretations, sings CONTE ALMAVIVA in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Fondazione Petruzelli in Bari.

Since 2019 the singer has been a soloist at the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow. Here he already could be seen in such roles as COUNT LIEBENSKOFF and DON LUIGINO in Rossini’s Il Viaggio a Reims, DON NARCISO in Il Tuco in Italia, TAMINO in Die Zauberflöte, CARLO in Donizetti’s Linda di Chamounix, FORD in Salieri’s Falstaff, NADIR in Bizet's Les pêcheurs de perles, the NIHILIST in Schostakowitsch‘ Katerina Izmailow, MONTAN in Rimski-Korsakow‘s Servilia, GONZALVO in Ravel’s l’heure espagnole and BRIGELA in Strauss‘ Ariadne auf Naxos...

In 2021 Valery Makarov portrayed BELFIORE at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro in Italy. In 2023 he returned here, this time as IROLDO in Adelaide di Borgogna.

Valery has also regular guest performances at the Moscow Novaya Opera and the Moscow Gorky Art Theatre and since 2023 he can regularly be seen at the Trubnaya-Theatre.

Born in Samara (Russia), Valery initially graduated from the Academy of the Tschaikowsky State Conservatory in Moscow.
The artist absolved several international master classes e.g with Plácido Domingo, Yusif Eyvazov, Tamara Sinyavskaya, Vladimir Koval, Ernesto Palacio, Barbara Frittoli, Paolo di Napoli, Juan Diego Flores, Dmitry Korchak, Massimiliano Bullo, Sergey Zaytsev and Ildar Abdrazakov.
His numerous singing competition awards speak for his exceptional talent. Especially worth mentioning here is the First Prize at the Elena Obraztsova Young Vocalists Competition in St. Petersburg , the 2nd Prize at the F.I. Chaliapin Singing Competition in Moscow, the Special Prize of the Francisco Vinas Competition in Barcelona and the Special Prize of Placido Domingo at the 2021 Operalia Singing Competition.

The good-looking tenor is one of the most promising young talents of the Russian opera scene, having regular guest performances at such operas as the Heklion and Saint Petersburg Opera Houses. At the Helikon Opera he already succeeded as BEPPO/HARLEKIN in Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci and TAMINO in Die Zauberflöte. At the Saint Petersburg Opera he was ALMAVIVA, NEMORINO in Donizetti’s L'elisir d’amore, NADIR in Bizet's Les pêcheurs de perles and at the New Moscow Opera he portrayed ALMAVIVA, LENSKY in Tchaikowsky’s Eugen Onegin and SAN FAR/SHAPLU in Adam’s Le Postillon de Lonjumeau.

At the Korea National Opera he was very successful as LINDORO in Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri and at the Astrakhan Opera- and Ballet Theatre he portrayed NEMORINO, IVAN LYKOV in Rimski-Korsakow’s The Tsar’s Bride and ALFREDO in Verdi’s La Traviata.

Moreover, her had guest performances at the Bolshoi Theatre in Belarus, at the Opera in Perm and the Krasnodar Opera Theatre. He performed with the Oryol State Philharmonic Orchestra , the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra under the musical direction of Philip Chizhevsky (Orff’s Cantata) and the Northern Symphony Orchestra under the musical direction of Fabio Mastrangelo.

Valery Makarov is also a composer, writing pieces for piano, choir music and Lieder.
