From the season 2026/27 the young tenor George Kounoupias is a permanent member of the ensemble at the Passau State Theatre, where he will be singing such roles as MARINONI in “Fantasio”, DON BASILIO and DON CURZIO in “Le nozze di Figaro”, CARUSO in “Petterson and Findus”, and FENTON in “Falstaff”.
The tenor began his artistic career as an actor on stages in Great Britain, where he appeared in award-winning Off-West End productions. After moving to Austria, he started his vocal studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, graduating with distinction in 2022. Soon after, he was engaged in various prestigious projects, including projects at Grafenegg and the Chamber Opera of the Musiktheater an der Wien. Since October 2022, he has been studying for an MA in Vocal Performance under the tutelage of Martin Vacha.
Recent projects included solo concerts throughout Europe, leading roles at opera and operetta festivals, and frequent appearances as a soloist in masses and cantatas. George sang under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle, Giancarlo Rizzi, Daniel Linton-France, Christoph Meier, just to name a few.
The artist participated in various masterclasses, such as those led by Brigitte Geller, Roger Vignoles, KS Neil Shicoff, Roderick Williams and Gerald Finley.
