Opéra de Lausanne - Mitridate - MITRIDATE |
"The Italian tenor Paolo Fanale as Mitridate with his clear, lyrical voice and his excellent technique is very convincing. He gives the character an adequate, presence showing at times his vocal brilliance. " |

"Paolo Fanale is the Miridate. A baritone role of terrifying range with leaps of tone and half a dozen arias, most of them “di furore”. And it is all the more difficult in the high register, as it is sung here at a “modern” pitch of 442. The Italian tenor, who is familiar with more endearing roles by Mozart (Ferrando or Idomeneo), shows himself to be unflinchingly courageous from his opening aria (impressive with its great leaps from low to very high), “Se di lauri”, in which he is pained and touching. He is no less remarkable in this insane aria “Tu, che fedel mi sei”, in which he transitions seamlessly from tenderness (towards Sifare) to vituperation (against Aspasia, in high notes). Paolo Fanale portrays a very human character, desperate, disappointed, betrayed, powerful and fragile at the same time, both acting and vocally, sometimes with expressionistic echoes, less idiomatically Mozartian." |

"Paolo Fanale portrays the title role with passion and reminds us how pleasant it is to hear an Italian school singer in the role of Mithridates. He brilliantly overcomes all obstacles, of which the score has plenty." |

Festspielhaus Baden Baden - Iphigenie auf Tauris - PYLADE |
"He has a soft, gentle and smooth voice, full of lyrical beauty. His vocal guiding showed a wonderful elegance, perfectly reflecting Pylades’ character. His arias were moments of intimacy and friendship, strongly contrasting the dramatical action." |

Palm Beach Opera – Norma - POLLIONE |
"In Pollione’s aria from Act One, Fanale held an impressive sustained high note, proving he was born to sing Bellini with stamina and brightness in a versatile voice." |

Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin – Cosi fan tutte - FERRANDO |
"...and Paolo Fanale (without emotional sfumato, but with a fantastic firm tenor timbre)" |

Opéra de Lausanne – Norma – POLLIONE |
"Due to his brilliant and vivid singing the Italian tenor Paolo Fanale, whose voice has considerably developed in the past few years, rises to the challenge to transfer Pollione, a thoroughly daunting role, into a true figure. His warm and brilliant timbre and his admirably convincing accent arise veritable enthusiasm in the audience." |
Scherzo scherzo.es |
"Effectively and secure in the high repertoire Paolo Fanale sang the Roman commander Pollione." |

Metropolitan Opera – Idomeneo - ARBACE |
"Paolo Fanale’s honeyed tone gave Arbace a more restrained and gentle character, which he put to good use during his aria “Se il tuo duol.” While the coloratura sounded a bit uncomfortable and uneven, the more legato phrasing was right up the tenor’s alley and he expressed warmth and solidarity with his King. But he also showed greater depth in his voice during the Act three recitative “Sventurata Sidon” where his phrasing was more pointed as he revealed the existential threat to Crete." |
Operawire operawire.com |
"Paolo Fanale endows Arbace, Idomeneo’s confidant, with an amiable character, which his sweet-toned tenor manages to reveal in his Act Two aria, ‘Se il tuo duol’, amidst the overactive strings which accompany him." |

Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alte Musik – Leonora - FLORESTANO |
"With his warm, gentle, yet virile tenor voice Paolo Fanale Paolo Fanale evokes compassion from the character, also because in case of doubt, he puts expression above an impeccably balanced vocal line." |
Süddeutsche Zeitung sueddeutsche.de |
Wiener Staatsoper - L’elisir d’amore - NEMORINO |
"Paolo Fanale proved a peasant timbre, at times he had a beautiful phrasing but gained true security at the „una furtiva ..“ Here everything was just perfect. He was a perfect actor. I can’t wait to see further performances of the young man from Palermo." |
