In the season 2025/26 season, Dominic Barberi can be seen as IL RE in “Aida” at the Berlin State Opera, in St John Passion with the Royal Danish Orchestra, as THESEUS in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the Münster Theatre, and as DALAND in “Der fliegende Holländer” at the Osnabruck Theatre.
Recent international guest engagements have taken the bass singer to the Opéra Bastille in Paris as the FIRST SOLDIER in “Salome”, to the Opéra Toulouse as the ONE-ARMED MAN in Strauss’s “Die Frau ohne Schatten” and COLLATINUS in “The Rape of Lucretia”, to the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino as GRAVIS and THEOLOGE in Busoni’s “Doktor Faust”, to the Lübeck Theatre and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam as the FIRST SOLDIER in “Salome”and to the Lucerne Theatre as COLLINE in “La Bohème*”. At the Essen Philharmonic he sang St. Matthew Passion, performing with the RIAS Berlin Chamber Orchestra and the Academy for Ancient Music.
At the German Oper Berlin he was the ONE-ARMED MAN in “Die Frau ohne Schatten”, at the Osnabrück Theatre he was VODNÍK in “Rusalka” and CONTE WALTER in “Luisa Miller”.
In the season 2021/22, he returned to the Opéra de Montpellier as ALODORO in “La Cenerentola”. Here, he had previously successfully portrayed BOTTOM in Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in 2019. He also appeared at the Komische Oper Berlin in Prokofiev’s “The Nose”, at the Opera House Leipzig as ANGELOTTI in “Tosca” and at the Opéra de Lille as BOTTOM in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.
From 2018 to 2020, Dominic Barberi was a member of the ensemble at the Mannheim National Theatre, where he portrayed—among other roles—ALIDORO, ANGELOTTI, TITUREL in “Parsifal”, HANS SCHWARZ in “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg”, DON FERNANDO in “Fidelio”, and FIGARO in “Le nozze di Figaro”.
From 2015 to 2018, the young bass was a member of the International Opera Studio at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, where he was supported by a scholarship from the Liz Mohn Culture and Music Foundation. During this time, he distinguished himself in roles such as L’OSTE in “Manon Lescaut”, the SECOND ARMOURED in “Die Zauberflöte”, TOM in “Un ballo in maschera”, PIETRO in “Simon Boccanegra”, the SECOND GRAIL KNIGHT in “Parsifal*, and the SECOND SOLDIER “Salome”. Highlights of his time at the Berlin State Opera include the roles of COLLINE in “La Bohème” and SARASTRO in “Die Zauberflöte”.
Dominic Barberi was born in England and graduated with distinction from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he studied under Stephen Robertson. He attended masterclasses with, Francisco Araiza, Deborah Polaski, Dame Ann Murray, Olaf Bär, David Syrus, Brigitte Fassbaender, Sir Thomas Allen, just to name a few.
The young bass performed throughout Great Britain as a guest soloist in numerous productions—including Rossini’s “Petite Messe solennelle”, Dvořák’s “Stabat Mater”, Michael Tippett’s “A Child of Our Time”, Haydn’s “Die Schöpfung”, and Mendelssohn’s “Elias, as well as in Copenhagen in Handel’s “Messiah”.
In 2014, he made his debut at Opera North as a Famigliare in “L’incoronazione di Poppea”. Further engagements took him to the Scottish Opera, the ABAO Bilbao, the Bregenz Festival, the Gut Immling Festival, theDessau Theatre, and the Braunschweig State Theatre. He enjoyed great success as ALVISE in Ponchielli’s “La Gioconda” at the Innsbruck Theatre.
