  BIOGRAPHY  

 

Since the season 2022/23 the young tenor is engaged at the Linz New Music Theatre. Here, he can be seen in such roles as CZUPAN in ‚Gräfin Mariza‘, DON BASILIO/ DON CURZIO in ‚Le nozze di Figaro‘, KUNZ VOGELSANG in ‚Die Meistersinger‘, ALFRED and DR. BLIND in ‚Die Fledermaus‘ or BEPPE in‘ I Pagliacci‘.

In summer 2023 he made his debut as COUNT STANISLAUS in ‚Der Vogelhändler‘ and as COUNT SASCHA KARLOWITZ in ‚Schön ist die Welt‘ at the Lehar-Festival Bad Ischl.

In 2023 he returned to the Salzburg Opera Festival „Oper im Berg“ as TAMINO in an Ingo Kolonerics production of Mozart‘s ‚Die Zauberföte‘, in role in which he had already succeeded here in 2021/22. Earlier in 2021/22 he was also engaged here as Violetta’s servant GIUSEPPE in ‚La Traviata‘. Immediately afterwards, he jumped in on short notice as GASTONE, learning the role in only 48 hours, and saved the performance.

In spring 2022 he completed his Master studies in Singing with Uwe Schenker-Primus at the Music Conservatory Franz Liszt in Weimar. Here, he was a member of the Belvedere Opera Studio Weimar. While still studying, he already gained first experiences on stage, portraying FERRANDO in Mozart‘s ‚Cosi fan tutte‘, or performing in opera and operetta venues.

Jonathan started his musical studies as baritone with Klaus Hager at the Academy for Music and Theatre in Rostock . After changing to the tenor repertoire, in his first year as tenor, he was awarded thr 3rd Prize of the Salzburg Grandi Voce Competition. Jonathan attended Master Classes with a.o.Sybilla Rubens. His Lied interpretations were also charcterized by the collaboration with Karola Theill. Because of his vocal coaches Francesco Cottone and Paul Jungeblodt he is one of the few classical singers, who also sing Rock, Pop and Jazz.

In his youth, he learned the violin and the piano. Later, he autodidactically tought himself to play the guitar. At the age of 14 he discovered opera singing and immediataly won the 2nd Prize of the ‚Jugend Muzisiert‘ Competition. Moreover, he won the Advancement Award of Mecklenburg Vorpommern within the frame of the Competition for Ostracized Music. He also received the German scholarships of the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation anf the Carin Riesen Foundation.

His counterpart in the tenor range is the new ensemble member Joathan Hatzendorf in the role of Baron Zsupán: not only an excellent voice, carrying and beautifully timbred in all registers, but also physically a truly present comedian, up to almost acrobatic dance performances. Especially in the extravagantly and jokily presented „Varasdin“ Hatzendorf impresses with classical singing but also scores with delicious rap. He was rewarded with a long lasting scenic applause.
