Vogtland Philharmonie – SEA PICTURES (Edward Elgar)
Edward Elgar’s „Sea Pictures“ five pieces for orchestra with texts by the English lyricist on the topic “Sea”, which followed after the break, were characterized by the harmonious interaction between the philharmonic orchestra and the young French mezzo soprano Johanna Brault. She jumped in on short notice for the indisposed Dutch singer Olivia Vermeulen. Brault, who is a member of the Plauen/Zwickau Theatre since 2014, proved to be an amazing solo singer. She had the necessary sense for a restrained introspection, a required in the dramatic heightening of the “Sea Pictures”. The singer sounded round and agreeably dark timbred , even when she had to stand up to the splendidly displaying orchestra, as demanded in the score.
Freie Presse – Volker Müller
The French mezzo soprano Johanno Brault, who is a member of the Theatre Plauen/Zwickau, jumped in on short notice and gave a remarkable performance. She sang the five songs – seldom one can hear the entire cycle in these concert halls – in original English , with plenty of empathy for the Victorian lyricism, convincing and agreeably moderate in expression. Her performance was even refined by her vocal qualities: a classical mezzo voice with a beautiful vibrato and extremely appealing registers, even in the alto and soprano parts. Most impressing were the “Sabbath Morning”, where she could use aria power and the last part of “The Swimmer” – undoubtedly the highlight of the cycle, where the dynamic proportion between solo part and orchestra suited best.

Luisa Miller – FREDERICA
""Vocally and scenically Johanna Brault was a truely convincing Duchess Frederica. In the ensemble scenes she vocally did perfectly justice to the broken- vindictive element in love, which is essential for the role."
Opernglas
"...jult like Johanna Brault who, with her heavy, expressive mezzo voice lends substance to the duchess.”
Opernwelt
"Johanna Brault as Luise’s rival could win the audience over in every respect."

MISS JULIE
"Guest soloist was the mezzo soprano Johanna Brault. It is almost impossible to hear she is French. The capricious character is so to speak in her blood, but also the emotional pain. With bravura she masters the vocal hurdles and with her clear diction she even succeeds in outshining some of her German colleagues. "
Fränkischer Tag
"Johanna Brault is an expert for contemporary music theatre. With her voice she truly succeeds in giving the role of Miss Julie opera real character traits in this chamber. The way she uses vocal stylistic devices and color facets to express the desperation and abysses of a tortured soul was truly fascinating and comes really close to Strindberg’s drama. “

Le Nozze di Figaro - CHERUBINO
"The hormone-driven page Cherubino is involved. He is brilliantly portrayed by the French mezzo soprano Johanna Brault, who proves to be a true gain for this theatre."
