In 2019 the young bass made his debut as BOTTOM in Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the Opéra de Montpellier and returns here in the season 2021/2022 as ALIDORO in “La Cenerentola”. Further engagements take him in Prokofieff’s “The Nose” to the Komische Oper Berlin, as ANGELOTTI in “Tosca” to the Leipzig Opera and as BOTTOM in Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” to the Opéra de Lille.
In 2022/23 he sings the 1st SOLDIER in “Salome” at the Opéra de Bastille Paris, the Matthew Passion with the RIAS Chamber Orchestra Berlin and COLLATINUS in “The Rape of Lucretia” at the Opéra de Toulouse.
From 2015-2018 Dominic Barberi was a member of the State Opera Unter den Linden, Berlin supported by a scholarship of the Liz Mohn Culture and Music Foundation. He appeared in such roles as OSTE in “Manon Lescaut”, the 2nd ARMORED MAN in “Die Zauberflöte”, TOM in “Un ballo in maschera”, PIETRO in “Simone Boccanegra”, the 2nd GRAIL KNIGHT in “Parsifal”, the 2nd SOLDIER in “Salome”, just to name a few.
Highlights included COLLINE in “La Bohme” and SARASTRO in “Die Zauberflöte” – two of his crucial roles .
From 2018 to 2020 Dominic Barberi was a member of the Mannheim National Theater ensemble, where he portrayed such roles like ALIDORO in “La Cenerentola”, ANGELOTTI in “Tosca”, TITUREL in “Parsifal”, HANS SCHWARZ in “Die Meistersinger”, DON FERNANDO in “Fidelio “ and FIGARO in “Le nozze di Figaro”.
Dominic was born in England and completed with distinction his musical studies at the Royal Conservatory of Scotland with Stephen Robertson.
He attended master classes a.o. with Francisco Araiza, Deborah Polaski, Dame Ann Murray, Olaf Bär, David Syrus, Brigitte Fassbaender and Sir Thomas Allen.
The young singer had guest performances in the entire United Kingdom. He sang in numerous productions a. o. in Gioacchino Rossini’s “Petite Messe solennelle”, Antonín Dvořák’s “Stabat Mater”, Michael Tippett’s “A Child of our Time”, Joseph Haydn’s “Die Schöpfung” and Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s “Elias”. Besides, he sang Georg Friedrich Händel’s “Messiah” in Copenhagen.
In 2014, Dominic Barberi made his debut at the Opera North as FAMIGLIARI in “L’incoronazione di Poppea”. At the Opera North he also was SALVADOR in Manuel de Fallas‘ “La vida breve” and he sang BANQUO in Giuseppe Verdi’s “Macbeth” at the Scottish Opera. Further roles include THESEUS in Benjamin Britten's” A Midsummer Night's Dream”, The SPEAKER in W.A. Mozart's “Die Zauberflöte” and ANTINOO in Monteverdi’s “Il ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria”.
In summer 2016 he made his debut at the Bregenz Festival, where he portrayed COLAS in „Bastien und Bastienne” and the COMMENDATORE in “Don Giovanni”.
In spring 2017 Dominic Barberi made his successful debuts as ABIMELECH in „Samson et Dalila“ and FERRANDO in „Il Trovatore“ at the Dessau Theatre.
In the season 2017/18 Dominic succeeded as ALVISE in Ponchielli‘s „La Gioconda '' at the Innsbruck Municipal Theatre. In 2018 he was ZUNIGA in “Carmen”, PUBLIO in “La Clemenza de Tito”, and L’USCIERE in “La porta della legge” at the Braunschweig State Theatre.
In 2020 he sang in “I Puritani” at the Opera de Oviedo. and in summer 2021 he succeeded as ALIDORO at the Festival Gut Immling.
