Since 2008 Frank Obermair is the First ‚Kapellmeister’ at the Neustrelitz Municipal Theatre and the New Brandenburg Philharmonics, where he had the musical direction of such productions as “Der Freischütz”, “Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor”, “La Bohème”, “Der Zarewitsch”, “Das Land des Lächelns”, “La belle Helene”, “Orpheus in der Unterwelt”, “Gasparone”, a.m.o.

Before that, the conductor was the musical director of the Sondershausen Castle Festival, ‘Kapellmeister’ at the Nordhausen Theatre and had engagements at the Linz Municipal Theatre.

The artist, who won several prizes at the competition „Jugend Musiziert“, studied music majoring in Conducting and Piano at the Mozarteum Salzburg with Prof. Michael Gielen and at the Richard-Strauss- Konservatorium Munich with Prof. Ulrich Wedel and Benedikt Köhlen. Besides, he participated in an International Master Class for Conducting with Prof. Jorma Panula in Helsinki.

Assistence engagements brought the young conductor to collueges like Georg Schmöhe, Heiko Matthias Förster, Ivan Anguélov, Hiroaki Masuda and Stefan Malzew.

After an internship at the Vienna State Opera, he worked as solo repetiteur and conductor at the Innsbruck Theatre under the directorship of KS Brigitte Fassbaender. Subsequently he became Deputy Director of Music of the Füssen Music Theatre. Later, he had guest engagements as conductor at the Neuschwanstein Muscial Theatre. At about the same time, Frank Obermair worked at the International Opera Festival in Chiemgau and had the musical direction of several opera productions in the Southern German area. In 2006 he was appointed as Chief Conductor and Musical Director at the Neuschwanstein Festival House.

Furthermore, Frank Obermair is also a sought-ater guestconductor for concerts. His repertoire includes a.o. works by Brahms, Beethoven, Debussy, Haydn, Händel, Mozart, Prokofiew, Respighi, Tschaikowski, Tarkmann, Wagner,...
