Born in Florence, countertenor Filippo Mineccia, is one of the most important Baroque Music singers of his generation and one of the greatest specialists in the repertoire of the great castrato era.

As a child, he begins his singing studies at the Fiesole School of Music and then pursues his training as a cellist and a singer, graduating from the Luigi Cherubini Music Conservatory in Florence.
Whilst a student, Filippo Mineccia distinguishes himself by winning prizes both from national and international singing competitions. He also collaborates with ensembles such as Il Complesso Barocco, La Capella della Pietà de Turchini, Collegium Marianum, Capella Krakoviensis, Accademia Bizantina, Divino Sospiro, I Barocchisti, La Folia Barockorchester, Zucker Kammerorkestera and Auser Musici and works with renowned conductors such as the late Alan Curtis, Ottavio Dantone, Diego Fasolis, Antonio Florio, Michael Hofstetter, Ruben Jais, and Enrico Onofri.

Operatic roles include the title role of Giulio Cesare and Tolomeo with the Accademia Bizantina and the Complesso Barocco, TELAMONE in Ercole sul Termodonte by Vivaldi, NERONE in Ottavia restituita al Trono by  Scarlatti, Purcell’s The Fairy Queen (Hagen City Theatre), ALESSANDRO in Tolomeo Re d’Egitto, UNULFO in Rodelinda with the Capella Cracoviensis,  DARDANO in Amadigi with the Kammerochester Basel under Mto. Dantone (Versailles, Basel and Halle), TAMERLANO in  Bajazet by Gasparini working with Carlo Ipata. Very much in demand on the oratorio platform, his repertoire includes Passione and Stabat Mater by Francesco Provenzale with La Capella de Turchini (Misteria Paschalia Festivalin Krakow), San Pietro Passione by Caldara (La Chaise Dieu Festival, France), Handel’s Dixit Dominus, Purcell’s Te Deum with the Orchestra Barroca Catalana, and Haydn’s Missa Cellensis under Maestro Bressan.  

Recent engagements took him to sing Carmina Burana at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, the title role in SILLA with Mto. Onofri (Handel Festival in Halle), OTTONE in Agrippina in a new Robert Carsen production, conducted by Mto. Hegelbroock (Theater an der Wien), ENDIMIONE in La Calisto (Strasbourg) with Christophe, OTTONE in Incoronazione di Poppea (Liceu, Barcelona), and concerts of Les sept Péchés capitaux with Leonardo Alarcon and the Cappella Mediterranea on Tour, Richard Lion Heart at the Telemann-Tagen Magdeburg. Next engagements will take him to sing BERENICE at the Händel Festival in Halle, GIULIO CESARE at the Semperoper Dresden, CAINO in Cain, il primo umidicio at the Salzburg Festival, ORFEO with Mto. Biondi at the Grand Théâtre de Genève and at the Theater and der Wien. He will also be SANTINO in the world premiere of Amore Siciliano at the Opéra de Dijon, or ACHILLE at the Opéra de Versailles, among many others.

His discography is marked by a flourishing collaboration with the label Glossa, recording three Oratorios by Gaetano Veneziano L’adorazione dei Magi, Il Tesoro di San Gennaro, and La Santissima Trinità with the ensemble I Turchini di Antonio Florio, as well as Bajazet. Filippo also recorded Giulio Cesare (title role) and Tolomeo with the Accademia Bizantina and Complesso Barocco (Naïve recording), Ercole sul Termodonte by Antonio Vivaldi (DVD with Dynamic). He has just realeased his new CD Orlando (Glossa).

On his album Mineccia is extraordinarily colorfully and vibrantly accompanied by the ensemble “The New Baroque Times” under the musical direction of Pablo García. Mineccia truly succeeds in bringing new life to the many characters , which incarnate love ‘s numerous facets. With his rich alto voice, which resembles fresh, sparkling well water, capable of wonderful deep notes and spotless heights he he is able to thrill and makes one want to hear more. Pure pleasure!

Händefestspiele Halle – Berenice - DEMETRIO
As the smart Demetrio (Counter Filippo Mineccia) sings himself into such a range, that he first tatters his shirt, then tears out the cables and pulls the plug in order to quieten the storm of images, this is certainly meant to be a self ironic punch line. Without doubt the scenic applause that followed inspired the fabulous Italian even more… for the second time (after his Lucio Cornelius Silla three years ago) Mineccia perfectly convinces in the role of the lover, who loves the “wrong” woman.
