Recently, the young Finnish Bass Baritone succeeded at the Opera House Helsinki with his interpretation of DOKTOR in Wozzeck, where he had previously this season appeared as ANGELOTTI in Tosca.
Tapani Plathan graduated at the Sibelius-Akademie Helsinki and made his operatic debut as SARASTRO at the Kokkola Opera in 2011. Immediately followed his Finnish National Opera first engagement, singing STROJNIK in Janáček’s “Die Sache Makropulos”. In the next season he was invited back to the Helsinki Opera as DOTTORE DULCAMARA in “L’elisir d’amore” and as MASETTO in “Don Giovanni”.
In 2013 he was awarded with the 3rd Prize by the National Singing Competition Lappeenranta.
In the season 2014/15 Tapani was engaged at the Coburg Municipal Theatre, where he made his debut as DEATH in Holst’s “Savitri” and appeared with OSMIN in “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” or COLLINE in “La Bohème”.
In 2015/16 he made his debut at the Saarland State Theatre in Saarbrücken as LEPORELLO in “Don Giovanni”. He was invited to sing this very role at the National Opera House in Rijeka, Croatia, as well as at the Savonlinna Opera Festival.
In 2017 came his double Berlin debut: as SARASTRO and SPEAKER Tapani was invited at the Comic Opera Berlin and as ZIO BONZO in “Madama Buttefly” at the Berlin State Opera. He was also KLINGSOR at the Turku Music Festival in Finland.
Last season Tapani appeared for the first time in France, singing COLLINE at the Théâtre Metz and came back to the Comic Opera Berlin as POLICEMAN and COACH DRIVER in the production of “The Nose”. He also appeared as ZUNIGA at the Jyväskylän Ooppera.
Future engagements include COLLINE at the Jyväskylän Ooppera, “The Nose”at the Comic Opera Berlin or ESCAMILLO at the Savolinna Opera Festival.
