Tapani PLATHAN Bass-baritone


In 2019 the young Finnish bass baritone enjoyed a huge success with his interpretation of the DOCTOR in “Wozzeck” at the Opera House Helsinki. Previously he appeared here as ANGELOTTI in “Tosca”.

In the season 2021/22 he is BANCO in “Macbeth” at the Norrlandsoperan in Sweden and he sings RE in “Aida” at the Savonlinna Festival.

Tapani Plathan graduated at the Sibelius-Akademie Helsinki and made his operatic debut as SARASTRO at the Kokkola Opera in 2011. Then followed his first engagement at the Finnish National Opera with STROJNIK in Janáček’s “The Makropulos Case”. In the next season he was re-invited at the Helsinki Opera as DOTTORE DULCAMARA in “L’elisir d’amore” and as MASETTO in “Don Giovanni”.
In 2013 he was awarded with the 3rd Prize by the National Singing Competition Lappeenranta.

In the season 2014/15 Tapani was a member of the Coburg Theatre, where he made his debut as DEATH in Holst’s “Savitri” and portrayed OSMIN in “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” or COLLINE in “La Bohème”.

In 2003 he was the winner of the 3rd Prize of the National Lappeenranta singing contest. In the season 2014/15 the bass baritone was a member of the Coburg Theatre. Here, he made his debut as DEATH in Holst’s “Savtiri” and sang OSMIN in „Die Entführung aus dem Serail und COLLINE in „La Bohème“.

In 2015/16 he made his debut at the Saarland State Theatre in Saarbrücken as LEPORELLO in “Don Giovanni”. He was invited to sing this very role at the National Opera House in Rijeka, Croatia, as well as at the Savonlinna Opera Festival.

In 2017 he made a double debut in Berlin: he was SARASTRO and SPRECHER at the Komische Oper Berlin and ZIO BONZO in §Madama Butterfly” at the Berlin State Opera. Besides, he sang KLINGSOR at the Turku Music Festival in Finland.

In 2017/18 he made his debut in France at the Théâtre Metz as COLLINE in “La Boheme”. He returned to the Komische Oper Berlin as COACHMAN and CONSTABLE in the production “The Nose”. He also could be seen as ZUNIGA at the Jyväskylän Ooppera .

In the season 2019/20 he was UN FRATE in “Don Carlo” at the Graz Opera, COLLINE at the Jyväskylän Ooppera and a SOLDIER in “Salome” at the Bergen Festival.

His engagements as SOLDIER in “Salome” at the Edinburgh Festival , as CONSTABLE, COACHMAN and 7th CLERK in Schostakowitsch „The Nose“ an die Komische Oper Berlin and as LEPORELLO in “Don Giovann” at the Opera Graz in the season 20/21 was canceled due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
