In 2019 the young Finnish bass baritone enjoyed a huge success with his interpretation of the DOCTOR in “Wozzeck” at the Opera House Helsinki. Previously he appeared here as ANGELOTTI in “Tosca”.
Tapani Plathan graduated at the Sibelius-Akademie Helsinki and made his operatic debut as SARASTRO at the Kokkola Opera in 2011. Then followed his first engagement at the Finnish National Opera with STROJNIK in Janáček’s “Die Sache Makropulos”. In the next season he was invited back to the Helsinki Opera as DOTTORE DULCAMARA in “L’elisir d’amore” and as MASETTO in “Don Giovanni”.
In 2013 he was awarded with the 3rd Prize by the National Singing Competition Lappeenranta.
In the season 2014/15 Tapani was a member of the Coburg Municipal Theatre, where he made his debut as DEATH in Holst’s “Savitri” and portrayed OSMIN in “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” or COLLINE in “La Bohème”.
In 2015/16 he made his debut at the Saarland State Theatre in Saarbrücken as LEPORELLO in “Don Giovanni”. He was invited to sing this very role at the National Opera House in Rijeka, Croatia, as well as at the Savonlinna Opera Festival.
In 2017 came his double Berlin debut: as SARASTRO and SPEAKER Tapani was invited to the Comic Opera Berlin and as ZIO BONZO in “Madama Buttefly” to the Berlin State Opera. Besides, he sang KLINGSOR at the Turku Music Festival in Finland.
In the season 2017/18 he appeared for the first time in France, singing COLLINE at the Théâtre de Metz and he returned to the Comic Opera Berlin as POLICEMAN and COACH DRIVER in the production of “The Nose”. He also was ZUNIGA at the Jyväskylän Ooppera.
Future engagements include COLLINE at the Jyväskylän Ooppera, “The Nose”at the Comic Opera Berlin, ESCAMILLO at the Savolinna Opera Festival and UN FRATE in “Don Carlo” at the Opera House Graz.
