  BIOGRAPHY  

 

In the season 2023/24 the Finnish bass portrays OSMIN in a new production of “Die Entführung aus dem Serail" at the Saarbrücken State Theatre.

2021/22 he was BANCO in “Macbeth” at the Norrlandsoperan in Sweden and sang RE in “Aida” at the Savonlinna Festival.
In the season 2019/20 he sang UN FRATE in”Don Carlo” at the Opera House Graz, COLLINE at the Jyväskylän Ooppera and a SOLDIER in “Salome” at the Bergen Festival.
Besides, in 2019 Tapani Plathan achieved a huge success at the Finnish National Opera Helsinki with his interpretation of the DOCTOR in „Der Wozzeck“. Before, he could already be seen here as ANGELOTTI in „Tosca“.

Tapani made his studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. In 2011 he made his opera debut as SARASTRO at the Kokkola Opera. This was followed by his first engagement at the Finnish National Opera as STROJNIK in Janáček’s „The Makropulos Case“. In the following season he was re-engaged here, this time as DOTTORE DULCAMARA in „L’elisir d’amore“ and as MASETTO in “Don Giovanni”.

In 2003 he was the winner of the 3rd Prize of the National Lappeenranta Singing Contest.
In the season 2014/15 the bass singer was a member of the Coburg Theatre ensemble. Here, he made his debut as TOD in Holst’s „Savtiri“ and sang OSMIN in „Die Entführung aus dem Serail” and COLLINE in „La Bohème“.
In the season 2015/16 he made his debut as LEPORELLO in “Don Giovanni“ at the State Theatre in Saarbrücken. He could also be seen in this very role at the Rijeka National Opera in Croatia and at the Savonlinna Opera Festival.

In 2017 he had two debuts in Berlin: Tapani was SARASTRO and the SPEAKER at the Komische Oper Berlin and ZIO BONZO in“ Madama Butterfly" at the State Opera Berlin. Moreover he sang KLINGSOR at the Turku Music Festival in Finnland.

In 2017/2018 he made his debut in France at the Théâtre Metz as COLLINE in “La Boheme”. He returned to the Komische Oper Berlin as CONSTABLE and COACHMAN in the production “The Nose”. He also succeeded as ZUNIGA at the Jyväskylän Ooppera.

His engagements as the SOLDIER in “Salome” at the Edinburgh Festival, as CONSTABLE, COACHMAN and 7th CLERK in Schostakowitsch’s „The Nose“ at the Komische Oper Berlin and as LEPORELLO in “Don Giovanni” at the Opera House Graz in the season 20/21 were canceled due to the COVID19 pandemic.
