Tijl FAVEYTS  Bass


Belgian bass TIJL FAVEYTS became internationally known in 2006 when he performed SARASTRO (“Die Zauberflöte”) at the age of 26 under Daniel Harding’s baton at the Festival Aix-en-Provence. George Loomis praised his interpretation of the OLD HEBREW in Saint-Saëns’s “Samson et Dalila” in the New York Times (05th May 2009):

„Tijl Faveyts delivered the old Hebrew’s utterances smoothly and with a handsome bass voice.“

Until summer 2012 Tijl was a member of the Sankt Gallen Theatre where he sang important roles of his repertoire, such as RAIMONDO (“Lucia di Lammermoor”), GREMIN (“Eugen Onegin”) and SARASTRO.

Since 2013/2014 he is a member of the Aalto Theatre Essen Ensemble, where he is heard in roles such as SARASTRO, DALAND (“Der fliegende Holländer”), HUNDING (“Die Walküre”) and COMMENDATORE (“Don Giovanni”).

Furthermore, his opera repertoire includes roles DON ALFONSO ("Cosi fan tutte"), SPARAFUCILE ("Rigoletto"), DON BASILIO ("Il barbiere di Siviglia"), ZUNIGA ("Carmen"), DON PASQUALE ("Don Pasquale") GREMIN ("Eugin Onegin"), OROVESO ("Norma"), OSMIN ("Die Entführung aus dem Serail"), DOKTOR ("Wozzeck"), BARTOLO ("Le nozze di Figaro") and COMTE DES GRIEUX ("Manon").

Guest appearances led him to the Salzburg Municipal Thetare , the Flemish Opera Antwerp, the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, the Festival of Aix-en-Provence, theVienna Festival Weeks, the Theater an der Wien, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Dutch Opera Amsterdam, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Stuttgart State Opera , the Leipzig Opera , the Tschaikowsky Concert Hall Moscow, the Lincoln Center New York,the Beijing Music Festival and the Israeli Opera Tel Aviv.

Tijl Faveyts works with such renowned conductors as Jiři Kout, Kazushi Ono, Fabio Luisi, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Daniel Harding, Carlo Rizzi, Antonino Fogliani, Tomáš Netopil and Marc Albrecht and directors like Nikolaus Lehnhoff, Luc Bondy, Frank Castorf, Stéphane Braunschweig, Guy Joosten,Vincent Broussard and Stefan Herheim.

The artist is also a well sought-after concert singer and has often performed Bach’s “St. Matthew Passion” and “St. John Passion”, Handel’s “The Messiah”, Haydn’s “Die Jahreszeiten” and Schubert’s “Winterreise”.

In the upcoming season he will give his debut at the Wagner Ferstival in Minden as FASOLT ("Das Rheingold") and he is reinvited to the Flemish Opera as PHILEBOS ("Der König Kandaules"). In Essen he debutes as RAMFIS ("Aida") and OREST ("Elektra").

In the season 16/17 he will sing his first KÖNIG MARKE in “Tristan und Isolde” as well as the SARASTRO and SPARAFUCILE at the Aalto Theatre Essen and DON FERNANDO at the Stuttgart State Opera . He makes his debut at the Cologne Opera as PRIEST/BADGER in “The Cunning Little Vixen” and is the HUNDING in “Walküre” at the Wagner-Days Minden.
Future Engagement will bring the artist a.o. to the Bejing National Opera as NACHTWÄCHTER in “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” and as SARASTRO to the Theatre de la Monnaie Brussels.
