Belgian bass TIJL FAVEYTS became internationally known in 2006 when he performed SARASTRO (“Die Zauberflöte”) at the age of 26 under Daniel Harding’s baton at the Festival Aix-en-Provence.

Until summer 2012 Tijl Faveyts was a member of the Sankt Gallen Theatre and since the season 2013/14 he is a member of the Aalto Essen Theatre, where he plays such roles as SARASTRO, DALAND in “Der fliegende Holländer”, HUNDING in “Die Walküre”, the COMMENDATORE “Don Giovanni” a.m.o.

Guest appearances led him to the Salzburg Municipal Thetare , the Flemish Opera Antwerp, the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, the Festival of Aix-en-Provence, the Vienna Festival Weeks, the Theater an der Wien, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Dutch Opera Amsterdam, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Stuttgart State Opera , the Leipzig Opera , the Tschaikowsky Concert Hall Moscow, the Lincoln Center New York,the Beijing Music Festival and the Israeli Opera Tel Aviv.

His repertoire include such roles as DON ALFONSO in “Cosi fan tutte”, SPARAFUCILE in “Rigoletto”, DON BASILIO in “Il barbiere di Siviglia”, ZUNIGA in “Carmen”, DON PASQUALE in “Don Pasquale”, GREMIN in “Eugen Onegin”, OROVESO in “Norma”, OSMIN in “Die Entführung aus dem Serail”, DOKTOR in “Wozzeck”, BARTOLO in “Le nozze di Figaro” und COMTE DES GRIEUX in “Manon”.

Tijl Faveyts works with such renowned conductors as Jiři Kout, Kazushi Ono, Fabio Luisi, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Daniel Harding, Carlo Rizzi, Antonino Fogliani, Tomáš Netopil and Marc Albrecht and directors like Nikolaus Lehnhoff, Luc Bondy, Frank Castorf, Stéphane Braunschweig, Guy Joosten, Vincent Broussard and Stefan Herheim.

The artist is also a well sought-after concert singer and has often performed Bach’s “St. Matthew Passion” and “St. John Passion”, Handel’s “The Messiah”, Haydn’s “Die Jahreszeiten” and Schubert’s “Winterreise”.

In the season 15/16 the tall, good-looking bass singer made his debut as FASOLT in "Das Rheingold" of the Ring in Minden. He also was re-invited to the Flemish Opera as PHILEBOS in "Der König Kandaules". In Essen he debuted as RAMFIS in "Aida" and OREST in "Elektra".

In the season 16/17 he made his debut as KING MARKE in “Tristan und Isolde” at the Aalto Theatre Essen, he sang the MINISTER in “Fidelio” at the Stuttgart State Opera, made his debut as the PRIEST/BADGER in “The Cunning Little Vixen” at the Cologne Opera, the NIGHT WATCH in “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” at the Bejing National Opera and sang HUNDING in “Die Walküre” in the Minden Ring.

In 2018 /2019 Tijl Faveyts is ROCCO at the Opera House Bilbao in Spain, SARASTRO at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, at the Opéra de Lille, at the Aalto Theatre in Essen and at the Comic Opera Berlin. He sings FERRANDO in “Il Trovatore” at the St. Gallen Festival. In Essen he also is the COMMENDATORE in “DonGiovanni”, EREMIT in “Der Freischütz” and RAMPHIS in “Aida”.

Future engagements also take him once more as FASOLT and HUNDING to the Minden Ring, as SARASTRO GREMIN, SPARAFUCILE, COMMENDATORE to the Comic Opera Berlin, , as COLLINE in “La Bohème” to the Opera Cologne and as SARASTRO to the State Theatre Gärtnerplatz in Munich.
